Der Schauspieldirektor

The Impressario

Comical one act opera

Fri 29 May 20:00 / Sun 31 May 15:00

Rooftop Ensemble in collaboration with the Pretoria Pfingstfestspiele brings Mozart’s comical one act opera Der Schauspieldirektor (The Impresario) to Brooklyn Theatre in 2015.

This quirky and hilarious singspiel is performed in the original German with a modernised English text. The backstage antics of the impresario, actors and waring divas are brought to life in this new production directed by Marth Munro and lighting by Allan Munro.

The Pretoria soprano Marina Botha leads a star studded cast accompanied by Misha Meyer leading the Pfingst Ensemble.

Gina returns every so often to her birthplace and apart from performing in concerto with various orchestras, she has also shown her versatility by performing for Salon Music in two Gypsy Fiddle Concerts. Her Gypsy Fiddle CD, on the Salon Music label is highly acclaimed and still selling well since 2008.

This GPO Symphony concert allows the orchestra to display its virtuosity in the highly enjoyable Ballet Suite (Delibes) and the popular Overture to The Italian in Algiers (Rossini). The remainder of the programme displays the Art of Gina Beukes with a Mozart Violin Concerto as well as a selection of the most well known bonbons for violin by Fritz Kreisler accompanied by the orchestra. And surely the people around me were taught the same lesson, because this one grumbled, that one shook her head and the man in front of me threw his arms in the air. And above all, I could hear a lady’s voice from the balcony, “No, Lovey, not now!”…READ MORE
