“There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 14:2
When you stretch or change the truth just a little, it is no longer truth at all. It’s like making up a batch of organic chocolate chip cookies with the finest ingredients from around the world, but adding in a small percentage of dog poop. Even just that small amount changes the flavor and content of the entire batch and makes it unfit for consumption. So it is when churches, focusing more on putting butts in seats rather than souls in heaven, change, repackage, promote and distort the Word of God to be palatable to folks who want their ears ticked and their eyes stimulated.
God’s Word needs no embellishment. Does it advance the cause of Christ to open your church service with a “90’s Medley” such as Northpoint Church recently did in Georgia, which included hip-hop style choreography combined with lyrics about being “turned on.”
Have we lost the ability to teach salvation through Jesus Christ and His sacrifice alone? The simple answer seems to be “yes.”
